CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)
Twenty-five years after its first release, original label, London Records approached me to rerecord a brand new production of the classic East 17 Christmas No1 Stay Another Day. The new version, specially arranged by acclaimed composer Joe Duddell (New Order, Elbow, Richard Hawley, Everything Everything and Daughter) features the 100-strong Waltham Forest Youth Choir accompanied by East London Brass, with East 17 founding member and writer of the original song Tony Mortimer on keys. Waltham Forest Youth Choir is formed of young people aged between 11 and 16 from schools across the borough.
I produced the record and led the production of the live campaign in collaboration with Cornershop PR. We were lucky enough to tour the TV interview circuit which included a live performance on ITV’s flagship show; This morning. They subsequentially appeared on BBC radio London and enjoyed a full write up in TimeOut.
We were aiming to get to No1, however whilst peaking at No2 we were finally crowned Christmas No5 which we were happy with.
